Your Yarra Valley & Victorian High Country Family Photographer

lets cherish your growing family -

As both a mother and a family photographer, I know that the most meaningful moments with little ones happen when they’re free to be themselves. Based in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, including Chirnside Park, Alexandra, Mansfield, and Wangaratta — I specialize in relaxed, documentary-style family photography that captures connection, laughter, and love in its most natural form.

Whether your session takes place in a golden paddock, on a hilltop in the Victorian High Country, or a quiet corner of your backyard, the magic lies in the real moments, giggles, cuddles, curious glances, and everything in between. I take my time to make sure every member of your family feels comfortable, unhurried, and truly seen.

Together, we’ll create timeless family photos that reflect who you are — full of joy, movement, emotion, and the beautiful chaos of everyday love. These are the images you’ll return to, year after year.

Krystals approach
A couple in wedding attire stands silhouetted against sunlit evergreen trees during golden hour.

When it comes to family photography, my approach is simple—focus on connection, authenticity, and making sure everyone feels at ease. I believe the best family photos come from natural moments, not stiff poses. I like to keep things relaxed and fun, allowing your family to interact and enjoy each other without the pressure of perfection. Whether it’s chasing your kids through a field or capturing a quiet moment at home, I’m there to guide you through it, ensuring every shot feels effortless and real.

My goal is to tell your family’s unique story through images that reflect who you are, so you can look back and remember the true essence of these moments, not just the poses.

FAQ

When do I book?

For immediate family sessions, it’s best to book about 3-4+ weeks in advance. This gives us enough time to coordinate schedules, especially with little ones, and ensures you get a spot that works for your family. If you’re planning a special event like a holiday or birthday, consider booking even earlier to secure your date.

For extended family sessions (including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins), I recommend booking at least 2-3 month in advance. Coordinating everyone’s schedules can take a bit more time, and having more lead time helps ensure the session happens at a time when everyone can be present.

Planning ahead also allows us to choose the perfect location and time of day for beautiful lighting and relaxed vibes.

What do I wear?

When it comes to choosing outfits for your family photo session, comfort and coordination are key! Here are a few tips to help you feel confident and look great:

  1. Keep It Simple: Opt for solid colors or simple patterns that won't distract from your faces. Neutral tones like creams, whites, grays, and soft pastels tend to photograph beautifully. Earth tones are also a great choice for outdoor sessions.
  2. Coordinate, Don’t Match: You don’t need to match exactly, but it’s important that everyone’s outfits complement each other. Choose a color palette that works together and let each family member’s personality shine through in their clothes.
  3. Comfort is Key: Choose clothes that your family members feel comfortable in, especially for little ones! If your kids love wearing dresses or your partner prefers a casual look, go with what feels natural for them.
  4. Layers and Textures: Adding layers or textured fabrics (like knit sweaters, scarves, or denim jackets) adds depth and interest to your photos without overwhelming the shot. Just be sure to keep it balanced and not too fussy.
  5. Avoid Logos or Text: Steer clear of clothes with big logos or text, as they can be distracting. Stick to clothing that emphasizes the natural connection and warmth of your family.
  6. Bring Extra Options: If you’re unsure, it’s always a good idea to bring along a couple of outfit options for the shoot. This way, you can adjust depending on how the session is going or how everyone is feeling.

Remember, these photos are all about your family’s connection, so wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident!

Can I bring my fur babies?

Absolutely! Pets are part of the family, and I love capturing their personalities too. Just let me know in advance so we can plan for them during the session as some locations are not pet friendly.

How long is the session?

My typical family photography session lasts up to 1 hour. This gives us enough time to capture a variety of moments, from candid interactions to group portraits, without feeling rushed. The length of the session can depend on the age of your kids or the complexity of the shoot, especially for extended family sessions. I like to keep it relaxed, allowing breaks if needed, especially for younger children, so we can get the best photos while everyone stays comfortable.

How long does it take to receive the final edited photos?

Typically, you can expect to receive 10 sneak peek images in the next 48 hours. Expect the remainder of the full edited gallery within 3-4 weeks after the session. This gives me time to carefully select and edit each image, ensuring they’re polished and perfect.

How do I prepare for the session?

During the booking process, I will email you through my session guide that will help you prepare for your newborn session in both studio & in-home. Props, blankets and newborn outfits are supplied.
