WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO BOOK YOUR NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER?
From one mum to another — here’s what I wish more parents knew.
Becoming a mum is one of the most life-altering, emotion-filled journeys you’ll ever go on. It’s wild, raw, beautiful—and honestly, a bit of a blur. I still remember those hazy early days with my own little one. The constant feeding, the barely-there sleep, the way time stretched and collapsed all at once. You think you’ll remember every tiny detail—but those newborn days pass in the blink of an eye. Funny enough, being a photographer myself, I DIDN'T photograph my little girl, AND I REGRETTED IT SOOO BAD! I thought I would have time, but turns out, resting and being in the moment was far more important.
That’s why I’m so passionate about newborn photography. Not just the “pretty pictures,” but the quiet, honest moments: the flaky skin, curled-up toes, sleepy sighs and milk-drunk smiles. These are the memories I want to bottle up for you.
And here’s the thing I hear so often from new parents:
“I wish I’d booked sooner"
So if you’re wondering when the best time is to book your newborn photographer in Healesville, the Yarra Valley, or the Victorian High Country, here’s what you need to know…

when is the ideal time for newborn photos?
The ideal time to photograph your newborn is between 7–14 days after birth. During this window, babies are typically:
- Sleepier and more settled
- Naturally curled up (perfect for those dreamy, gentle poses)
- Less prone to baby acne or colic
Of course, every baby is different—and I always follow bub’s lead, whether they’re 6 days or 6 weeks old. Your session will be calm, unhurried, and baby-led from start to finish.
That’s why I recommend booking during your second or early third trimester. It guarantees your spot in my calendar. I'll pencil in a date approximately 1-2 weeks after your due date, once baby arrives, we confirm your session date—easy and stress-free. All newborn sessions are photographed on Tuesdays & Wednesdays

Do I Need to Know My Baby’s Exact Arrival Date?
Nope! Babies love doing their own thing 😅
When you book early, I hold space around your due date. Whether your little one arrives early, late or right on time, I’ll work with you to lock in the best session date. Flexibility is key during the newborn stage—and I’ve got you.
